JD Health, the healthcare subsidiary of eCommerce giant JD.com, will be led by Xin Lijun, who currently oversees JD’s local lifestyle division. JD Retail CEO Xu Lei has been named as chairman.

JD Health has operated as a standalone unit since May as the company looks to diversify beyond its core eCommerce business and keep pace with the likes of Tencent and Alibaba in exploring the opportunities afforded by China’s burgeoning digital healthcare sector.

The business started as a platform for vitamins and supplements, but is now looking to venture into O2O pharmacy, drug wholesale and online medical care.
